Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to all use of Spendwell.com and any other Spendwell app or product.

Data Spendwell collects

Spendwell collects two types of data from users:

  1. Volunteered Member Data

This is data Spendwell members intentionally share. It includes, but is not limited to member value priorities, settings, emails and names. Spendwell retains this information on its own secure servers.

  2. Passive Operational Data

This is data Spendwell users and members allow Spendwell to collect by using this website or any of Spendwell’s apps. This includes, but is not limited to anonymized user and member information such as general location, device usage, and some very general site and/or app usage information. Only a portion of this data is stored by Spendwell. Plausible, Spendwell's web analytics provider, collects and stores data on its own servers in a completely anonymized state.

How Spendwell collects data

Spendwell uses cookies in order to facilitate authentication and authorization (i.e., logging members into Spendwell apps and assigning you privileges). As a result of this use of cookies, Spendwell may collect and store completely anonymized data about your usage of Spendwell and its services, like, but not limited to, when and where you have logged into one of Spendwell’s apps, the kind of device you used, etc. Spendwell will not share or sell even this annonymized information and will only use it to improve Spendwell.

When you become a Spendwell member, Spendwell also collects data from you through a web form and stores that data in a secure database. This includes data you provide Spendwell through your Settings page and when you set your priorities.

As mentioned, Spendwell uses Plausible, as a service, to compile aggregate data about usage of Spendwell app(s). For example, Plausible helps Spendwell determine which reports and features are getting the most attention. Plausible does not set cookies on your device. Spendwell users should examine Plausible’s privacy policy. Use of Spendwell means that Plausible’s privacy policy and its usage of your data also apply.

To join Spendwell, contact Spendwell or to reset your account password, Spendwell uses hCaptcha (a service of Intuition Machines, Inc. (IMI), offered at www.hcaptcha.com) to verify that you are human. In the process, hCaptcha evaluates various information (e.g. IP address, how long the visitor has been on the website or app, or mouse movements made by the user). The data collected during the analysis will be forwarded to IMI. hCaptcha analysis in the "invisible mode" may take place completely in the background. Website or app visitors are not advised that such an analysis is taking place if the user is not shown a challenge. Data processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) of the GDPR (DSGVO): the website or mobile app operator has a legitimate interest in protecting its site from abusive automated crawling and spam. IMI acts as a "data processor" acting on behalf of its customers as defined under the GDPR, and a "service provider" for the purposes of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). For more information about hCaptcha and its privacy policy and terms of use, please visit the hCapthcha's privacy policy and terms of use.

How Spendwell protects data

Spendwell as a portal for transactions operates only through a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and data is encrypted before transmission. Spendwell does not store sensitive personal information beyond what you can control through your member settings (Volunteered Member Data).

Minimalist approach to data collection

Given the limitations of security in a constantly-evolving internet and digital world, Spendwell’s approach to user data collection is to collect only that which is absolutely necessary for the success of Spendwell, its apps and content.

Limits to data security

Technology evolves every single day and so do the ways in which nefarious actors attempt to compromise secure systems. While Spendwell will make every reasonable effort to protect user data, Spendwell offers no guarantee of user data security or privacy.

Spendwell will not sell data it collects from you

Spendwell will never sell Volunteered Member Data collected from you. This is the only data that Spendwell collects directly from its members.

Spendwell will vet all data partners for their commitment to your privacy and data security

Spendwell will only work with transactional and operational partners that share a strong commitment to your data privacy. Partners that interact with Spendwell user data also have their own privacy policies that apply to your use of Spendwell. Please read these privacy policies:

Plausible Privacy Policy

hCaptcha Privacy Policy

Spendwell will not share identifiable data without your permission

Spendwell will not share data collected from you without your explicit permission. Spendwell will only collect data from you deemed necessary for the successful operation of this site and Spendwell’s apps and products.

How Spendwell uses general user data

The information Spendwell gathers from general users on Spendwell.com and Spendwell apps is usage information such as site visit duration, which pages are most popular and the types of devices that are used to visit Spendwell.com and Spendwell’s apps. Spendwell will use this information to make Spendwell.com and Spendwell’s apps a better experience for its visitors and users.

How Spendwell uses Member data

Spendwell uses the information that you intentionally share, like your value priorities, in order to set editorial direction and improve Spendwell. Spendwell improvements based on member data could include, but will most likely not be limited to, feature improvements, user interface design improvements, and business model improvements.

Who does your data belong to?

Data that Spendwell directly maintains about you is your data. Spendwell will always disclose to you the data that Spendwell collects from you. You can request its removal from Spendwell’s servers and databases at any time. In addition to removing data from Spendwell’s servers, all external records of yours that Spendwell has control over will also be removed. Please note, asking to have your data with Spendwell removed will end your membership with Spendwell and this action can only be reversed by creating a brand new member account. To have your data completely removed from Spendwell, discontinue your membership through your Spendwell Member settings.

This Privacy Policy is subject to Change

Spendwell is a work in progress and so is this privacy policy. Spendwell reserves the right to change it at any time and it will most likely be updated in the near future. When the privacy policy changes, you will be notified via email or through website and/or app prompts. Any updates to Spendwell policy will be cataloged and timestamped here:
